It appears the “Stoning of Sonia Sotomayor” in a second day of scathing attacks of her values and views although she is fending off these frivolous and baseless attacks by the republicans on the Judiciary Committee.

Many of the Republicans attacks Judge Sonia Sotomayor are racial and sexist in themselves and these senators are going overboard in their attempt to discredit a female judge.

The sexism involved in the Republican attacks at her are designed to disgrace, discredit and color her as a racist judge. While these Republicans are holding true to their own biases against women the evidence is in the number of women “allowed” to rise to the highest court in the land.   The Newt Gingrich, Karl Rove and Rush Limbaugh attacks are old, stale and not working -in fact they are appearing overbearing and racists themselves.  However their clinging to power in the judicial system is quickly slipping away and their vigor in the questioning is overbearing and displays chauvinistic values.

The plan is backfiring since Republicans do not have the final say  on who becomes a Judge on this court nor do they have the right to dominate the issues to their own conservative values.  This notion that a Supreme Court Judge has to be pro-life, pro-guns which is a contradiction in itself the psychological demeaning comments are mean and ruthless against this first Hispanic judge called to serve on the bench.

Gingrich called for her resignation, Limbaugh called her “a racist” as if he himself is not?
Republican strategists must be aware of how their message is coming across in the court of public opinion and how republican reforms are still on the back burner.

Sessions has an axe to grind because he is allowing his personal experiences to taint his decisions having been denied a position in the past.  Hatch is protecting the morality of the republican party pro-life-pro-gun laws they value as their core beliefs are not winning favor with the public.

Republicans Alito, Roberts, and Scalia are all very conservative judges yet the were approved to serve and the continuation of discrimination is clear in their decisions.  More over these conservative judges favor corporations over the individual, they are bent on overturning Row V Wade- which is law.  These judges are attempting to influence laws that affect women primarily and are not different from the laws affecting women in Afghanistan.

In 2006 George Bush nominated Sam Alito to the bench who held a “radical” view of presidential powers and a narrow view of Congressional power.  Alito was a Pro-Choice Judge who maintains that the constitution does not uphold abortion rights, and in his view civil liberties should be reduced, and the rights of ordinary Americans are not worthy of consideration.  Alito was radical in several ways and agreed with the then President Bush to expand the President’s power, while today with Obama they chose to limit the power of the President. You can’t have it both ways and in the middle.

Senator Graham’s comment on Sotomayor’s temperament  was an unnecessary and sexist attack

inferring that women have a temperamental problem. Yet Graham supported John McCain who has an explosive temper and is a sexist senator also.  The old boys club is alive and well in the Republican Party in 2009 and this tack is a high risk gamble for Republicans. The Hispanic community is listening very careful to how Judge Sotomayor is treated and who is doing the attacking.

When you contrast this view with Sotomayor- her nomination not only makes sense but is much needed to balance the powerful decisions made by the Supreme Court which is the last resort for legal remedy of prejudice and injustice for the common person.

The replacement of Sandra Day with Alito was a big step back to the caveman mentality of republican values, and of keeping women in their place let alone never to “allow” minorities to make decisions on American laws.

Senator Orin Hatch has only to look at Justice Alito’s views on extending presidential powers had more of an effect on Americans that what happened to some firefighters -the comparison is vast in its implications.

The right wing radical Republicans who wish to control the courts and laws of the United States will regret their attacks on Sonia Sotomayor-the voters have their say in the upcoming elections.  It is unprecedented to have the plaintiffs in a judicial hearing that were involved in a case that Judge Sotomayor ruled on in the past.  This is grossly unfair to the nominee and should not have been accepted.  It appears the Republicans are desperately trying to discredit her and give her an enormous amount of scrutiny including Senator John Cornyn performance.
